Krafton's AI Revolution: Voluntary Resignation Offer for Staff (2025)

Krafton's Bold Move: AI Transformation and Voluntary Resignations

The Future of Gaming: AI or Human Creativity?

Krafton, the renowned Korean gaming corporation, is making headlines with its ambitious plan to become an "AI First" company. But here's where it gets controversial: they're offering a voluntary resignation program to staff who may not align with this AI-centric vision.

Krafton, the powerhouse behind popular titles like Inzoi, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Palworld Mobile, has announced a shift towards "agentic AI" as the core of its development strategy. In an October 23 announcement, the company declared its intention to create an AI-centered management system, where employees would focus on creative tasks and complex problem-solving.

"We will begin in earnest an AI-centered management system where members focus on creative activities and solving complex problems," an agent explained. To support this vision, Krafton plans to invest a substantial amount, over 100 billion won (approximately $69 million), in GPU clusters.

However, this transformation comes with a catch. The voluntary resignation program seems to be aimed at those who might not embrace Krafton's new "AI First" direction. A company representative clarified, "The core purpose is to support members in proactively designing their growth direction and embarking on new challenges, both inside and outside the company, amid the era of AI transformation."

The compensation package is quite generous, offering six months' salary for those with a year or less of service, and up to 36 months' salary for employees with 11 or more years of dedication to the company.

And this is the part most people miss: Krafton has also frozen company hiring. While they claim it's not about cost-cutting, but rather increasing "individual productivity" alongside the AI First program, it raises questions about the future of human employment in the gaming industry.

Despite these changes, Krafton's financial performance remains strong. As reported by Business Korea, their third quarter this year saw the highest quarterly performance ever. But the question remains: is this the beginning of a new era in gaming, where AI takes center stage, or is it a controversial move that could impact the industry's creative landscape?
