Even more concerning, according to a NSW Police spokesperson, the stolen Range Rover was allegedly linked to "multiple break and enter offences in Lake Illawarra, Monaro, Sutherland, Inner West and ACT areas between October and November this year." This means the vehicle wasn't just stolen; it was potentially used in a string of crimes across a wide geographical area.
Another pursuit began when the driver of the Range Rover refused to stop. However, similar to the first chase, this one was also terminated, this time due to "safety concerns." The police deemed the risks of continuing the pursuit too high, prioritizing public safety over immediate apprehension. A short time later, officers from the Region Enforcement Squad (RES) located the Range Rover on Burelli Street in Wollongong. Around 9:50 AM on the same day, the abandoned Range Rover was discovered on Cliff Road in Wollongong. Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter and called in additional resources, including a dog squad, to conduct a thorough search of the surrounding area. After an intensive search, police apprehended both the alleged driver, a 42-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 38-year-old man, nearby. During the arrest, officers deployed a Taser on the male suspect.
The charges against the woman are extensive. She faces accusations of police pursuit, dangerous driving, being carried in a vehicle taken without consent of the owner, driving while her license was suspended, and two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal less than or equal to $60,000. Furthermore, she was also charged with an outstanding warrant related to a string of other offenses, including aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, take and drive vehicle without consent of owner, aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal less than or equal to $60,000 (five counts), dishonestly obtain property by deception, and aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal less than or equal to $60,000 (three counts). She was denied bail and appeared at Bail Division Court 3 on Wednesday, November 5. As for the man, inquiries are ongoing.
