The curtains rise on a new era of entertainment in Rigby! The town is abuzz with excitement as the brand-new Stage Door Repertory Theatre prepares for its grand opening with a hilarious musical premiere.
A Whimsical Whodunit Unveiled
'Something's Afoot' is not your typical musical. This satirical masterpiece, set to debut on January 23rd, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., takes a playful jab at the classic Agatha Christie mysteries. With a cast of quirky characters, it promises a night of laughter and intrigue. But here's where it gets interesting—each character is a hilarious caricature of a familiar mystery trope.
Meet the Cast of Characters
The talented ensemble includes Alicia Gabrielsen as Lettie, the sassy maid; Todd Kelson as Clive, the butler; Liberty Miller as the ingenue, Hope Langdon; and Graeme Allen as Dr. Grayburn. Thomas Bugg takes on the role of the wayward nephew, Nigel Rancour, while Matthew Gardner portrays the seasoned Colonel Gillweather. Kaatia Larsen graces the stage as Lady Grace Manley-Prowe, with Phylicia Fife as the amateur detective, Miss Tweed. Sebastian Doren plays Geoffrey, the juvenile, and the theater owner himself, Nick Charles, steps into the role of Flint, the caretaker.
Nick Charles, a seasoned actor with a passion for the stage, is thrilled to bring Flint to life once again. He reflects on the character's comedic charm, having played him multiple times before.
But the story of Nick's journey to Rigby is just as captivating. After years of success running a theater in Anaheim, California, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a change of plans. Retirement in Idaho beckoned, but the allure of the stage never faded. And so, the Charleses embarked on a new adventure.
From California to Idaho: A Theatrical Journey
Nick's talent was quickly recognized in east Idaho, where he joined the inaugural show at Center Stage Theatre in Idaho Falls. His performance as Pharaoh in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' was so well-received that his wife, Julie, had to fly in to catch the show. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The support of the local theater community has been invaluable. Nick's friendship with Justin Dabell, owner of Center Stage, has led to a thriving collaboration, sharing resources and expertise. While the two theaters share some similarities, Stage Door Repertory Theatre aims to offer a unique experience with a mix of family-friendly and more mature productions.
A Season of Laughter and Intrigue
The theater's 2026 lineup is packed with exciting shows. 'Noises Off,' scheduled for June, promises a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at a chaotic production. 'Nunsense' and 'Nunsense A-Men' will offer a unique twist on a beloved production, and 'A Christmas Story' will bring holiday cheer.
And there's more! The theater invites you to be a part of this exciting journey. Visit their website (https://www.stagedoorrep.org/) for tickets and show information, and follow their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/StageDoorRepertoryTheatre) to stay updated.
