In a surprising yet anticipated move, Cade Uluave, the standout linebacker for the Cal Golden Bears, has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. This news comes from On3’s Hayes Fawcett, who highlights Uluave as one of the most impressive players in college football during the past season. Known for his remarkable tackling ability, Uluave is now poised to explore new opportunities on the open market as he seeks to advance his collegiate career.
During the 2025 season, Uluave participated in 12 games and achieved an impressive total of 100 tackles—42 of which were solo efforts, while the remaining 58 were assisted. His consistent presence around the ball and his knack for bringing down opponents have made him a standout player in any game situation.
Statistically, Uluave also recorded notable achievements including 12 tackles for loss and three sacks, showcasing his versatility and impact on defense. Additionally, he contributed five quarterback hurries and five pass breakups when tasked with covering receivers. Although he did not secure any interceptions during the recent season, he has successfully grabbed three throughout his overall college career.
Former Cal head coach Justin Wilcox praised Uluave's contributions, stating, "Invaluable. I mean, when you have a guy who’s got the character traits that Cade has, I mean, he is a solid guy. He’s the real deal human being. And then, I mean, that guy’s a baller. He is a baller. I’ve been around a little while now and seen defensive football players.
"He’s had a couple things that kept him out of games last year with some injuries. But when he’s healthy, like, I don’t know that there are a lot of guys better than him as a defensive football player. He’s incredibly explosive. He’s got great instincts and he’s a great human being. So, yeah, I’m a big believer in Cade."
Cade Uluave is a testament to Wilcox's ability to nurture and develop exceptional talent on the defensive side of the ball. Coming out of Herriman, Utah, as a three-star recruit from Mountain Ridge High School, Uluave was ranked as the No. 926 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, which combines results from four leading recruiting services.
