Imagine being just 11 years old, facing a battle against a brain tumor, and still finding the strength to raise over £100,000 for charity. That's the incredible reality for Kirsty, a young girl from Tunbridge Wells, who recently received a JustGiving Rising Star Award!
Kirsty's story is one of resilience and generosity. While undergoing chemotherapy, she was surprised with the award by none other than Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. But here's where it gets truly inspiring: Kirsty isn't just fighting her own battle; she's also crocheting bunting triangles to mark each of her 70 weeks of chemotherapy, all as part of her 'Crochet for Cancer' campaign.
"It's crazy to see how many people voted for me," Kirsty shared with BBC Radio Kent, highlighting the overwhelming support she's received. Diagnosed with a brain tumor in November 2024, which has impacted her eyesight and memory, Kirsty has already crocheted 52 triangles towards her goal. Her fundraising efforts for Children with Cancer UK began alongside her treatment and have now surpassed the incredible milestone of £100,000.
Her meeting with Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash was a highlight. Kirsty described Stacey as "lovely" and "fun," and Joe as "so funny." Her dad, Mat, added that the couple made them all feel incredibly special, emphasizing the warmth and joy they brought to the afternoon.
